Recreation Constructionfor Parks, Athletic Facilities, and Community Spaces
Built to last beyond opening day.
A recreation facility is not a standard build.
A recreation facility is not a standard commercial build. The site gets heavy use. Users range from kids to athletes to the general public. The building has to work, hold up, and stay safe year after year.
KCS builds recreation construction for cities, school districts, and private operators. We self-perform earthwork, concrete, and site utilities. That keeps the core trades in house and the schedule on track.

Municipalities. School districts. Private operators.

Municipalities and Counties
Parks, rec centers, and civic facilities. Public projects come with public eyes on every decision. We know what that looks like.

School Districts
Athletic facilities and support buildings tied to active campuses. The school calendar does not stop for construction. Planning and phasing matter.

Private Recreation Operators
Fitness centers, sports venues, and recreation businesses. Your customers expect a finished facility on day one. So do we.
Recreation Facilities, Above Ground and Below.
Fields, courts, tracks, and the buildings behind them. Shelters, restrooms, parking, and the site work underneath it all.

Athletic Facilities
Fields, courts, tracks, and the buildings behind them. We get the grades and drainage right -- the part most people do not see until it rains.
WHAT WE BUILD — 1 OF 4

Recreation and Community Centers
High-traffic buildings designed for real use. Function leads the design.
WHAT WE BUILD — 2 OF 4

Park Infrastructure
Shelters, restrooms, parking, and site work. The parts of a park that make it work for the people who show up.
WHAT WE BUILD — 3 OF 4

Site Work for Recreation Projects
Grading, drainage, paving, and utilities. The work that keeps an athletic field playable and a parking lot usable after a hard rain.
WHAT WE BUILD — 4 OF 4

Recreation sites take more wear.
Recreation sites take more wear than most commercial sites. Concrete gets pounded. Parking lots fill up on weekends. Fields have to drain when it rains.
Most clients are surprised by how much of that work happens before the building does. The grading that makes a field drain correctly. The parking lot that has to hold up to Friday night traffic. The utilities stubbed in before the slab goes down. These are not afterthoughts -- they are where the project gets set up right or starts to slip.
KCS self-performs that foundational work. Our earthwork crew gets the grades right. Our utility crew installs the drainage. Our concrete crew builds surfaces that hold up. It all gets the same attention as the building itself.
READY TO BUILDTanganyika Penguin & Otter Encounter
Koehn Construction Services partnered with Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, Kansas, to construct a 4,100-square-foot addition designed to create new interactive experiences between guests and animals, located adjacent to the park's existing main penguin pool area.

What types of recreation projects does KCS build?
Does KCS work with school districts?
Yes. We have built on active school campuses. Phasing around the school year and working with staff is part of how we plan those jobs.
Can KCS manage both site work and the building?
Yes. When a recreation project includes heavy site work and a building, KCS can manage both under one contract. Design-build is often the right fit.
What makes sports and recreation construction different from standard commercial work?
High traffic, heavy use, and public exposure. The site has to drain. The surfaces have to hold. The building has to work for a wide range of people. We plan for that from day one.
How do I get started?
Use our Request an Estimate page or call our Fredonia or Tulsa office. We will talk scope, delivery, and next steps.
